The Lighthouse Church
After years of prayer, planning and fundraising The Lighthouse Church in Heswall was officially opened on 5th October 2023. The building stands on the site of the previous Church of the Good Shepherd and Parish Hall which were demolished in November 2021 to make way for the reimagined Lighthouse Church designed to better serve the community of Heswall.
The seed of an idea to create a new church was first planted 25 years ago. The Church of the Good Shepherd, although only built in the 1960s, had a growing number of significant flaws and expensive structural problems. Alongside this the older Parish Hall was not only falling into disrepair but was becoming less and less suitable for church and community use. The solid brick wall at the front of the church kept church and community apart.
In October 2015 the church council decided that something had to be done and so began the process of designing and building the new Lighthouse Church. Designed by Liverpool based architect Shedkm and built by Skyline the church was almost entirely funded by generous donations from church members who contributed to the total cost of £2.5 million.
Bishop Mark, in his sermon at the Opening Service compared the Lighthouse Church to the other actual lighthouses on the Wirral, urging the church to be a beacon of light and hope, offering protection and help those in need, standing firm upon the Rock (of Jesus Christ).
There are two services on a Sunday at 10.30am and 6.30pm where we would love to see you.
